LearnMelanoma.org is designed to teach you how to distinguish benign moles from cancerous ones. This involves completing three short sessions which last about 10-15 minutes each. Each session will provide additional information and training on how to identify cancerous moles and distinguish cancerous moles from benign ones. The sessions are designed as a complete unit. You will get the most benefit from finishing all three sessions. You will be learning to identify both melanoma and basal cell carcinoma because the latter is a very common form of skin cancer and is easily confused with melanoma. The last session may take place a year from now. This may sound like a long time to wait. Remember that moles are present your whole life. Being able to identify skin cancers today probably won't help if you forget how to do so a month or a year from now. If you study other educational materials on skin cancer before you complete all three sessions, this will make it harder for our research program to find optimal methods for people to learn to identify melanoma. Therefore, we ask you not to study other educational materials on skin cancer until you finish all three sessions. After the last session, we will point you to additional resources on melanoma. If, however, at any time you think you may have a melanoma, consult a physician immediately! Completion of all three sessions will enter you into a drawing for prizes (First prize: US $150, Two Second prizes: US $100, Three Third place prizes: US $50). If you think you might have melanoma, please contact a dermatologist immediately for proper diagnosis and treatment. Do not wait until you finish this course! | |
